Bio-Biogas: Biogas in organic farming
Here Europe and the Free State of Thuringia invest in rural areas
Funding source: Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture, European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD)
Duration: 01.10.2022 - 31.12.2024
Cooperation partners: Agrar-Milch GmbH Dillstädt, LVV Ökozentrum Werratal/Thüringen Betriebs, Güterverwaltung Nicolaus Schmidt AG, Biologische Landwirtschaft Ralf Demmerle, Landwirtschaftsbetrieb Ullrich, Arbeitsgemeinschaft bäuerliche Landwirtschaft Mitteldeutschland e.V, Bergkreishof Ökologischer Landbau GmbH & Co. KG, Hof Richardt, Prof. Dr. Walter Stinner, Institute for Biogas, Circular Economy and Energy.
Brief description:
The object of the project is the residue-based biogas production and high-quality recycling of nutrients in the form of fermentation products in organic farming in Thuringia.
Economically viable and environmentally optimized utilization concepts for a residue-based nutrient cycle with biogas production are being developed in cooperation with organic agricultural and food farms, operators of biogas plants (BGA) and agricultural and energy industry consultants. The focus is on multifunctional and multistage utilization concepts that can include the generation of renewable energy, waste heat utilization, technical processing of biogas, and fertilizer production. Depending on the farm's orientation and regional market potential, it is examined whether biogas technology can be used to set up and economically operate energy- and heat-intensive plants for the (pre-)processing and marketing of agricultural raw materials.

Presentation on Biogas Basics - a Youtube series
After working 9 years for a technology provider and 9 years for a project developer and plant operator I have come across many AD-plants. Not all of them good. Some of them really bad. [...]
Biogas is a cottage-industry, but it requires a broad knowledge basis to design a plant correctly, covering process, mechanical and chemical engineering, agriculture, fluid dynamics, chemistry, biology, thermodynamics, and many other disciplines.
I decided to make my knowledge public, hoping to create a free and easily accessible biogas canon in the form of a Youtube Playlist (@BiogasBasics). After all, nobody reads books these days and they are behind paywalls.
