Three more biomethane plants on the grid
After a lead time of 2.5–4 years, operators have now succeeded in establishing upgrading facilities in Petersdorf and Fehrbellin (both in Brandenburg) and in Ahrenshagen (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) for upgrading biogas to natural gas quality and feeding it into the gas grid. Despite a number of administrative and technical challenges, all three plants went into operation in the last quarter of 2025.
In the future, all three plants will generate electricity, heat, and biomethane in parallel, ensuring maximum flexibility in plant operation. We will continue to support the plants to varying degrees as a technical and administrative sparring partner for all issues previously unknown to the operators, including the regular calculation of greenhouse gas emissions and the preparation of mass balances for entry in Nabisy, as well as gas marketing.
We expect that in 2026 and 2027, 8-10 additional client plants will feed the first kilowatt hours of biomethane into the grid, with more to follow.
